We went for Christmas lunch yesterday and it was excellent. The staff were friendly and very much in the Christmas spirit and we got a very warm welcome. Starters were small but perfect - the carpaccio of venison with celeriac was sublime and the scallops with samphire, succulent. Thank God they weren't bigger as the main course was enormous!! Generous portions of roast parsnips and potatoes on the bottom with sprouts and fresh carrot & swede mash and lots of rich gravy; several slices of moist, thick-set turkey, a wide slice of gammon and some gorgeous big tasty chunks of duck - and of course, stuffing and cranberry. Puddings were good too - the Christmas pudding was moist and fruity and the cheeseboard again lavish
